With daylight savings back, the sun is setting later and beautiful beach days are just up ahead. We're not sure about you, but we need some motivation to get our fit summer lifestyle back on track.
We got in touch with 3 real people in Beirut who've got their lifestyles in check all year round. They granted us the pleasure of tailing them for a day around their regular activities to see how they go about their routine: from working out, to eating meals, to walking their dogs and work meetings, and even to having a couple of drinks. You'll be seeing a few features for each person throughout the upcoming few weeks.
SO! If you too need a little push to get your summer bod on, start nowhere but here.
Summer Lifestyle Goals: Featuring Elie Bou Khalil
Elie is also a personal trainer and physiotherapist at U Energy gym in downtown. Needless to say, Elie is pretty much a reference when it comes to sports, health and maintaining a fit lifestyle.
Elie grew up and lived in Lebanon and is fluent in Arabic, French and English.
His favorite sports are swimming and squash. Squash was a sport that he's been playing since he was a child and successfully at that, as he won a number of competitions. Not that we need any reason to like Elie any further, but he also has a German Shepard (Leo!) who he, and we quote: "loves to bits". Aww!
Part 1: Morning Gym
Elie's Gym Routine: Breakfast, Habits & Tips
In our first feature with Elie, he shares his typical routine breakfast and workout tips.
"A typical day always involves waking up at 6 am, the earlier the better as I like preparing my tea, vitamins and breakfast. I prefer early workouts as it boosts me all day. It is also a healthier time of day to exercise in order to accelerate your metabolism and get a balanced sleeping cycle."
"Natural energy is always a requirement before exercising whether it's cardiovascular or weight training. I usually have a ginger and lemon shot that energizes me in the morning. If I happen to workout in the afternoon I go for fatty nuts (walnuts, almonds, cashew), or even quarter an avocado for a long run energy breakdown."
"On busy weeks I workout 3 times a week whereas moderate ones I get in up to 5 workouts per week. When i work out, I make sure to train my lower body and upper body on different days, and I make sure to mix them up by doing a conditioning session with high intensity interval training."
"My favourite workouts involve body weight exercises like pull ups, push ups and dips."
"When I look for sports clothes when I'm working, comfortable shoes are a requirement to reduce the chances of injury in the long run, as the job requires a lot of standing, walking and carrying."
"Overall I thought BHV's Urban collection is great and it has very comfortable choices."
