We are so shocked and saddened to hear that renowned International Lebanese fashion designer Basil Soda (1967-2015) died after an illness that some media sources say to be cancer.
It is truly a huge loss to the Lebanese fashion scene. Our sincere condolences go out to Basil Soda's family in this very difficult time. RIP Basil Soda, Lebanon will truly be missing incredible talent.
Basil Soda, Since 2000
Basil Soda started his career fifteen years ago when he established his fashion house. As written on his website, Soda was largely inspired by architecture and one can see how that was translated into his designs, there's always an element of structure and volume that is apparent.
He started grabbing the attention of big international media houses a few years ago. Here's an excerpt from an interview with the NY Times in 2012:
"Mr. Soda is known for structured flourishes (he studied architecture at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik in Lebanon for two years) and high price tags (according to Elizabeth Lepore, an owner of Jimmy’s, a ready-to-wear evening dress costs around $2,500). Though not a member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, he shows during both the Paris haute couture and ready-to-wear fashion weeks, and he employs 150 tailors and other garment workers in his atelier in Beirut, where he said he caters to a mostly Middle Eastern, Russian and European private clientele."
The World of Basil Soda
Basil Soda's fashion lines include Haute Couture, Bridal and Ready-to-Wear. He launched his RTW line in 2010, and now can be found in cities all over the world, from New York, Washington, Cannes, Toronto, Vienna, Moscow, Dubai, Beirut, to Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Dressing All Stars Alike
Basil Soda is one of the most successful Lebanese fashion designers well-known and loved even in the international scene, with a consistent presence on the red carpet dressing celebrities including Katy Perry, Emily Blunt, Marion Cotillard, Jiang Yiyan, Paris Hilton, Morena Baccarrin, and Guiliana Rancic.
We know that Basil Soda is a favorite of L'Armoire de Lana's, Lana Sahely as well. Here she is wearing one of his structured designs.
