Last year my mom decided to get me a cat for Christmas from an NGO in Lebanon called BETA. Despite being more of a dog person, I couldn't help falling in love with her cute little blonde mug and playful eyes the moment I saw her.
Kiwi is almost one year old this year, and it will be her first ever Halloween. Everyone at home thinks Kiwi has to partake in the fun - so it was on me to make sure she has a Halloween costume.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find a store in Beirut that sells costumes for pets and I know I simply won't have time to sew a proper outfit to fit her. I decided to seek help from my little friend Google.
If you have a pet at home and are looking to create an outfit for your dog or cat, then check out these 5 funny Halloween pet costume ideas you can re-create in no time.
1 // Transform Your Pet Into a Different Animal with Spray Paint
You can transform your pet into a different animal by spray-painting their fur with a particular pattern. Any Bambi takers? Alternatively you can go for a scary effect by drawing cuts and stitches on your pet or spraying it all over with a neon color.
Don't worry, spray paint comes off immediately and won't harm your little munchkin, just don't spray anywhere near the face. Here's more info on non-toxic face paint.
2 // Create a Mutant Pet with Old Stuffed Animal Toys
You can make use of your old stuffed animal toys to create pet mutants. Simply cut off the heads of the toys and stitch them on a harness that you can wrap around the body of your dog or cat. For a killer effect, try to find an exact toy version of your pet.
3 // Use Wigs For Maximum Funny
If your pet can play the part, then a wig can be one of the quickest costume ideas. You can find lots of colorful wigs in some accessory stores in Hamra. The lion costume hair piece is a popular one on the net right now - you can replicate it by finding the right color wig, trim it if you need to and then stitch it in a way to fit your pet's head. Your pet's comfort comes first - so make sure the wigs are not annoying your little monster.
4 // Create a Costume From Items Lying Around Your House
Perhaps the most fun and easiest costumes can be created from stuff that is lying around your apartment. Think sunglasses, t-shirts, chunky necklaces, socks, curlers, ect. This one will depend on how creative you are. Again the safety and comfort of your pet come first.
5 // Put Your Arts and Crafts Cap On
Ok, I admit this one might take a bit more time, but still it's pretty easy. All you need is scissors, needle and a thread, glue and thick felt fabric of different colors. It will take you maximum half an hour to put something together. Go for something easy like bat wings, a hero's or villain cape or a taco maybe?
Meow, meow, ruff, ruff!
